Congress: Instruments for sustainable building
In June 2012 we are able to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the awardance, by the former Ministers Künast and Bodewig in Berlin, of the first natureplus certificates for sustainable building products. In Berlin on 21.06.2012 14h00-22h00 at Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung conference location, on the occasion of this anniversary, we want to reflect upon our activities and draw an interim balance to see how natureplus is positioned within the instrumental framework of sustainable building in Europe.
At this event natureplus will strive to increase its inter-networking with the political, scientific and commercial sectors. A number of representatives from German Ministries and important international sustainable building organisations will attend, EU and German Federal instruments relating to sustainable building and the promotion of ecological building materials will be discussed and it will possible to compare many of the different approaches in the assessment of building products.
The program of the specialist congress "Instruments for sustainable building in Europe" gives an overview of all the instruments to destill sustainable building from greenwash and mass production on both the building level - e.g. sustainable building certificates as LEED, BREAM, DGNB or building process monitoring systems as SENTINEL - and the building products level - e.g. new EU Regulation on CE-Mark, EPD systems, other LCA methods like PCF and CAP'EM and the natureplus certification. Accompanied is this very interesting program by special lectures to EPD methods, sanitary problems and the use of renewable resources, provided by international specialists.
Because most of the lectures are held in German, an English interpreter service is provided. In the evening, former minister of consumers affairs and actual Chairperson of the Parliamentary Group of the
German Green Party (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), Renate Künast, will speak about "Sustainable building for the energy turnaround" and will present the "natureplus award 2012" to a person who has distinguished themselves in their efforts to support natureplus and the development of sustainable building products. This is part of the festive evening "10 Years of natureplus" where also many testimonials will describe the effort of natureplus certification.
Natureplus has developed very positively over the last 10 years. We are currently active in numerous European countries with more than 300 certified products from around 70 manufacturers. All these products distinguish themselves through particularly good environmental performances over the product’s complete lifespan, energy efficiency in their production and usage, the preferred selection and use of renewable or mineral-based secondary raw materials and an effective contribution to healthy living e.g. through the strict control of harmful emissions. This has helped natureplus to develop into Europe’s most important label for sustainable building products.
