Embodied Carbon in Buildings

ASBP launches event "Just How Much Carbon Are Your Buildings Responsible For?" on 24/10/2019 from 2:00-5:00 pm in Bristol.

Over the next decade, new and existing buildings are set to become increasingly more energy efficient, with anticipated improvements to UK Building Regulations and low energy building standards such as Passivhaus and Energiesprong entering the mainstream. A new digital revolution is also upon us with ‘active buildings’ and advancements in modern methods of construction seen as an answer to solving the UK’s housing supply problem and meeting zero carbon targets.

With reductions in operational carbon (CO2 emitted from a building when in use), the emissions share of embodied carbon (CO2 emitted during the manufacture, transport and construction of building materials, plus end of life emissions) is set to rise significantly. This is why ASBP is starting the event "Just How Much Carbon Are Your Buildings Responsible For?" Thursday 24/10/2019 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm in Bristol.

This afternoon event will explore ‘whole life carbon’ (WLC) approaches to construction and discuss the latest tools, policy developments, methodologies and guidance available to enable accurate WLC assessments and help address carbon emissions across the whole lifecycle of a building.

We’ll also have an update on an important research project which aims to make the case for the preservation and sympathetic retrofit of historic buildings in terms of saving costs and reducing embodied carbon emissions.
