How does the construction industry succeed in becoming part of a regenerative and closed loop economy?

Experts, manufacturers and politicians will discuss this transformation in the webseminar series "reduce, reuse, recycle - Zukunft Baustoffe" on Circular Economy and building materials from 24 June 2020 to 21 July 2020.

The consumption of resources in the European construction industry is neither sustainable nor viable for the future: 54% of total volume of waste is comprised of construction and demolition materials, and 50 % of the raw materials extracted in Germany are construction minerals. Reducing the use of raw materials, reusing building products and recycling residual materials to a high standard is an elementary component of sustainable construction. What contribution building materials can make to this and what requirements building materials will have to meet in future - also with respect to the EU's climate protection law - will be discussed with experts from science, the Federal Environment Ministry, manufacturers and specialist politicians.

The webseminar series kicks off on June 24th on Circular Economy and the Resource Shift. Annette Hillebrandt, architect and professor at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal, will introduce the topic with a keynote on urban mining. This will be followed by 4 weekly webseminars:

30 June: Resource Shift and Architecture - Rethinking Building?

7 July: Resource Shift and Politics - What's next?

13 July: Circular Economy in Europe - Approaches and best practice?

21 July: Resource Shift and Product Development - Opportunities for New Recyclable Building Materials?
