Sustainable building

natureplus e.V. is a representative and democratic association of building professionals (building materials manufacturers, building materials merchants, the construction sector, planners and architects) together with experts and organisations from civil society (environmental and consumer protection organisations and construction biologists, trades unions and scientific institutes) from across Europe which aims to inform and educate on the subject of sustainable building materials. Our objective is to alter the culture of building in Europe in the direction of sustainability, a circular economy and the protection of the climate, resources, the environment, health and of social rights.

We consider building products in a holistic manner, with all of their qualifying characteristics. We also take into account the whole life cycle of the products from their manufacture to their disposal or re-use. Through the development of the eco-label, natureplus has taken on the great scientific challenge of making the numerous properties of building products measurable, comparable and evaluable. This development is not complete and must continually keep pace with developments in scientific knowledge and the technological opportunities these present. Through the natureplus eco-label, natureplus e.V. is able to provide guidance towards products that will enable the establishment of a culture of sustainable building.

In addition, it is also necessary to put this knowledge into practice and to help those products that best fulfil current and future requirements to make a breakthrough. In order to do so, information and education on the sustainability-related properties of building products is necessary. This should be targeted, above all, at specialists and building investment decision-makers but should also be available to the wider general public. This information primarily supports the interests of environmental and consumer protection by warning about products that are harmful to the environment and health and presenting appropriate alternatives. The practical application of this knowledge by planners and merchants is supported by the use of databases and similar tools. The Association endeavours to convince state institutions in the individual countries to provide incentives to promote the use of sustainable building products and to realign their own construction-related procurement practises in order to support sustainability.

We show the way to sustainable building products

The natureplus product database  was created in cooperation with baubook GmbH. It provides comprehensive technical data and environmental-, health- and sustainability-related product property information on over 600 natureplus certified products.

Diese Informationen können Planer, Handwerker und Verbraucher kostenfrei und ohne Anmeldung nutzen.

Cooperation and exchange

Stronger together in a network

Together with its members, with state institutions and many other organisations from civil society, natureplus implements information campaigns to promote the use of sustainable building materials.

In turn, these support natureplus in achieving its aims and thereby profit themselves from the specialist expertise of natureplus e.V. and the positive image of the Association.

The regular exchange with the scientific community (e.g. UBA, AgBB, DFG, FhG) guarantees that natureplus is fully informed of any new scientific or technological developments, which enables an alignment with state-of-the-art practices.
